Albemarle Prison Release Paths
Albemarle Correctional Institution is a North Carolina Department of Adult Correction state prison near New London. A person released to the community may begin parole or post-release supervision, return to another county, or enter another recorded status. A person moved to a different NCDAC prison remains incarcerated. Facility departure by itself therefore does not establish release.
The central proof is an Actual Release Date in the most recent applicable incarceration period, read with current Inmate Status and Probation/Parole/Post Release Status. A state record can show POST RELEASE/PAROLE and ACTIVE after physical prison release. That combination means the person is in the community under supervision, not fully discharged from the sentence.
Full discharge is better supported when the relevant incarceration, service, and supervision periods are inactive or expired and no other custodian holds the person. The facility address does not prove where the person went. A reentry designation also does not mean every person will remain in Stanly County after leaving Albemarle.
Important: Projected Release Date is an estimate. Actual Release Date and present status are the key public fields for a completed prison exit.
Search Albemarle Prison Releases
The NCDAC Offender Public Information search includes people who served a North Carolina prison sentence or are or were under state probation, parole, or community supervision. Start with All. Searching only Inactive can miss a person who left prison but remains active on parole or post-release supervision.
- Enter the DAC offender number when known. Otherwise use last and first name, adding birth date or age only to separate similar results.
- Select All so active prison, active supervision, and inactive historical records can be considered.
- Open the correct detail and compare the offender number, identity fields, current location, and previous location.
- Find the Most Recent Period of Incarceration that matches the target event.
- Read Actual Release Date, Projected Release Date, Service Status, Sentence Status, punishment type, terms, and any parole dates together.
- Check the top-level Inmate Status, Probation/Parole/Post Release Status, and named supervision office before deciding whether legal supervision ended.
A historic record can contain several custody periods. An old Actual Release Date does not prove that a newer admission ended. The public search reaches current and historical state information, but it is not the whole confidential prison or supervision file.

Albemarle Release Record Fields
A person’s NCDAC detail separates the historic prison event from current legal status. That distinction is vital when reading an Albemarle Correctional Institution result. Actual and Projected Release Date can both remain on the record, but only one describes a completed event.

A live official Stanly release-county example located in the research showed an Actual Release Date alongside POST RELEASE/PAROLE, ACTIVE supervision, a named office, and an active service period. The correct reading was physical release from state prison with continuing community supervision, not unconditional discharge.
Albemarle Monthly Release Search
NCDAC also maintains an Inmate Release Search that can be filtered by release county, year, month, or name. Its results show offender number, name, release date, primary offense, and type of release. The STANLY county option means NCDAC recorded Stanly as the release county. It does not mean the person left the Ralph McSwain county jail.
Release type should be transcribed with care. A result such as PAROLE/RETURN TO PAR describes a supervision path and should not be rewritten as full discharge. Open the person’s detailed record after finding a monthly result. Current supervision and service fields add the context that the release table alone cannot supply.
The monthly tool is useful for a recent state-prison release. Older history belongs in the main Offender Public Information search. Neither database should be used to infer that a person left Albemarle on a projected date. Sentence calculation, earned time, discipline, court action, and other lawful changes can move that estimate before actual release.

A narrow state request should include the person’s name, DAC number, and date of birth only when needed to distinguish the record. Ask for the public basic incarceration information tied to the relevant period, including admission date, Actual Release Date, public release or movement type, sentence length, and the public correctional photograph displayed in OPI.

DAC says simple requests may take days, while broad or redaction-heavy requests can take weeks or months. Electronic copies are normally provided, and the agency does not have to create a compilation that it does not maintain.

The official Albemarle Correctional Institution page identifies the prison as a male medium-custody facility and designated reentry institution.
The official facility description supports its state-prison role. It does not identify the destination of any one person or turn a transfer into release.
Capacity describes the institution, not the number of releases, current population, or number of people returning to Stanly County. No annual release count was supplied in the facility research. Follow each offender record rather than turning a facility figure into a personal conclusion.
Albemarle Release Versus Discharge
Release from prison means the person physically left that incarceration period. Discharge means the applicable legal service has ended. Those events can occur on different dates. North Carolina post-release supervision commonly follows prison for covered modern felony sentences, while parole applies chiefly to older eligible sentences and limited statutory groups.

The public detail can identify a Probation/Parole Office, but confidential supervision notes and check-in details are not made public merely because the status appears online. Read the high-level public fields without assuming access to the complete supervision file.
Albemarle Reentry Release Destination
NCDAC’s designated-reentry label is a facility characteristic. It indicates an institutional role, not a promise that every person at Albemarle will be released from that prison, live in Stanly County, or report to a Stanly supervision office. Some people transfer to another institution. Others return to a different county or begin supervision elsewhere.
Use Current Location and Previous Location to understand movement. Then read the release and supervision fields for the person. An address for Albemarle Correctional Institution is not the person’s home or release destination, and STANLY in a release-county result must be read as NCDAC’s record field rather than a universal destination rule.
Where a supervision office is publicly named, that office gives stronger evidence about the community supervision path than the prison’s location. A future supervision end date also does not show full discharge today. Present ACTIVE or inactive status controls the current reading.

Stanly County’s Two Release Systems
Stanly County has both Albemarle Correctional Institution, a state prison near New London, and Ralph McSwain Detention Center, a Sheriff-run county jail in Albemarle. This local pairing makes source selection especially important. The two facilities do not share one release archive, and their records answer different custody questions.
An Albemarle state-prison release needs an NCDAC Actual Release Date plus present inmate and supervision status. A Ralph McSwain roster disappearance needs the Sheriff booking and release or transfer event. Movement from the county jail to Albemarle is a transfer into continued state custody. Movement from Albemarle to another NCDAC prison is also continued custody.

About Albemarle Correctional Institution
Albemarle Correctional Institution is an NCDAC male medium-custody state prison. It is not the Stanly County jail. People there are held under state correctional authority, and the statewide offender database is the correct current and historical public lookup.
